Throughout the years there has been a new trend of “exposing” that has taken social media by a storm. The most recent exposures that have occurred are racist acts done by “Tik Tokers” whether it has been racist remarks, actions and even saying the N-word. For years there has been a repeating cycle of getting exposed, massive hate and then public apologies. After the repeated cycle a question that everyone must start the conversation is: Are we tired of apologies?

After a resurfacing of famous tik tok influencer “Emmuhlu” saying the N-word in multiple videos there has been a massive outrage within social media. There has been even more of an outrage due to her claims of being an advocate for Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ+ rights. Throughout social media she always used her platform to speak out about being known as an ally, but now that multiple videos have resurfaced the public has been outraged.

“Everything that I stand for with my entire heart and being has been tarnished,” she said. There has been a flood of apologies from her about how ashamed she is throughout this entire situation. “I don’t deserve to be forgiven,” she said which opened the floor for conversation on whether apologies are enough.

For so long there has been a plethora of follow up apologies after public figures have been “exposed” for past racist remarks and it leaves people in thought of whether apologies are enough anymore. There is a duty for the influencers who are the majority to know that every action has a reaction past, present and future.

This situation should teach those who have a large platform that all actions have consequences and that it is their responsibility to address something as serious as racism first hand if they truly have changed. There have been endless apologies, but the real change is how to address the situation.
