It all started when…
“My soul is tired, I’m ready to go,” according to rapper Azealia Banks. The rapper recently took to social media to vent about her mental health and the space that she was in during this period of quarantine.
“It’s hard for me to get up in the morning and hard for me to go to sleep at night,” she said. Her cryptic messages and posts created a massive amount of support for her online as fans supported her through such a dark and intense time.
This created a massive conversation of how the general public can hold celebrities to a higher standard and can forget that they are still regular people who battle with the same obstacles.
“This pandemic , extreme lack of social interaction, no intimacy, combined with constant public ridicule is making life harder than its worth,” she said.
What this showed is that just because celebrities have their own platform does not mean that their mental health should be looked at as less important. As people there needs to be a greater understanding that mental health is something serious to discuss and if someone has sent out a cry for help then there should be help involved immediately.
