There are much more important matters at hand that need immediate attention, according to professional tennis player Naomi Osaka.
On Aug. 26 a massive number of athletes across the world used their platforms to speak up about racial injustice after the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old black man who was shot seven times in his back in front of his three children after his attempt to break up an altercation.
Professional sports leagues such as the WNBA, NBA and MLB have shown solidarity and support that racial injustice should be the most important priority in the world right now.
With athletes having boycotted games and cancelled practices this shows that the Black Lives Matter movement is something more than just a trend and that it should be handled with urgency and care.
“Change doesn’t happen with just talk!! It happens with action and needs to happen NOW!” Lebron James tweeted.
Although NBA players have reportedly decided to resume their playoff games, the statement that was made throughout the sports industry was something that got attention from viewers and fans all over the world to know that Black Lives will always matter.
