With the premiere of the 2020 Billboard Music Awards eyebrows were raised about the state of award shows during a pandemic.

As Kelly Clarkson hosted with no audience and social distancing the question became; have award shows gone downhill through this pandemic?

COVID-19 has not only shifted the state of basic living, but has also created a shift for entertainment as well.

The award show had an awkward feeling as artists and the host try to be engaging with viewers virtually, but some moments did not seem to stick.

There were major wins from artists such as Billie Eilish, Lil Nas x and Khalid and even major performances from artists like Doja Cat, Kane Brown and Demi Lovato.

Even with some of the major celebrities, the award show felt like something was missing.

What this showed is that award shows have a great amount of expectations and pressure on them to remain engaging to the viewers.
