It all started when…

Lana Del Rey raised a question for the culture that took the world by a storm all through social media. The singer songwriter took to Instagram to release a statement that called out numerous female artists that have had number one records such as Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Kehlani, Doja Cat, Cardi B and even Beyoncé.

The singer named these women and implied that their music was about “being sexy and wearing no clothes” instead of music that was about “feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect,” she raised many different perspectives throughout social media that created the conversation of the battle that women face being put against each other in the Industry.

“I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse,” Lana Del Rey said. The rant she made brought a great amount of controversy simply because she mentioned other women in the music industry which made her statement come off as an attack to her counterparts.

The constant battle between women in the music industry has created a large divide between people with different perspectives that open up a larger conversation as to why women in music are held at a greater standard, but are also expected to be cookie cutter and express themselves in only one way.

Overall, there is a major variety of women in music who express themselves in different ways that people are able to pick and choose who to gravitate towards which should be looked at as progression instead of a battle being created against the variety of women in music.
